Immunization Clinics
The health department provides immunizations and immunization education to the residents of Vinton County. Immunizations are provided to both children and adults. The health department provides all required childhood immunizations (DTaP, IPV, MMR, HIB and Hepatitis B) and elective childhood immunizations (Prevnar, Influenza, Varicella, Tdap and Meningitis). Vaccines such as Tetanus, Hepatitis B, MMR, Pneumonia and Influenza are provided to adults. Immunizations are offered at the health department at the following days and times:
Immunizations are provided at low cost. Medicaid is accepted. No child will be denied immunizations for inability to pay. Special immunization clinics are held throughout the year including National Infant Immunization week and for school immunizations in August. Immunization educational materials are distributed at health fairs, local fairs and festivals and through other programs such as Women Infants & Children (WIC), Help Me Grow (HMG), and the Bureau for Children with Medial Handicaps (BCMH). Since 1997 the Health Department has received the Immunization Action Plan grant from ODH. The goal of this grant is to achieve and maintain 90% vaccination coverage levels for universally recommended vaccines among children less than 36 months of age. In effort to meet this goal the health department provides immunization at convenient locations and hours; education to parents of infants, the general public and to immunization providers; and assesses the immunization rates of the health department and private practice immunization providers. As of August 2007, the Health Department's rate for having children, aged 24 to 36 months of age, appropriately immunized was 87%. This was a 3% increase from the Health Department's 2004 rate. |
