Nutrition Counseling and Education

Childhood obesity is at an all time high and in effort to combat this problem; in 2005 the Vinton County Health Department in conjunction with the Vinton County School began providing nutrition education to local children.  Nutrition education is provided by a public health nurse in each of the local elementary schools during regular school hours and also during Project Boost.   

Age appropriate education about good nutrition and the importance of physical activity is provided using games and activities that are fun for the children.  Healthy snacks are also provided. 

This service is provided with funding from the Ohio Department of Health, Child and Family Health Services Grant. 

The services of a Registered Dietician are also available.  This service is available to residents of all ages who have nutrition related concerns.  The Registered Dietician performs a nutritional assessment and provides ongoing counseling for those who need this service.  This service is available by appointment only.  For more information or to schedule an appointment, please contact the health department.
