Public Health Infrastructure
The Public Health Infrastructure (PHI) Grant is designed to develop and maintain a strong public health infrastructure capable of addressing and responding to a bioterrorism, terrorism, unintentional, or naturally occurring event that results in a public health threat or emergency. Communications systems, information technology systems, emergency plans, trainings, and disease reporting and monitoring have been developed and maintained by funds provided by the grant. To address anticipated medical personnel shortages during large-scale emergency events, the Vinton County Health Department has established a Medical Reserve Corps to pre-identify, train, and organize medical and public health professionals to strengthen community health and emergency medical response through volunteerism.
