Vision and Hearing Specialty Clinics

The vision and hearing specialty clinics have been administered by the Bureau of Child and Family Health Services of the Ohio Department of Health in cooperation with the local health department since the 1960’s.  These clinics are made available to Vinton County children because we are a medically underserved area.  These clinics are open to children from birth to twenty one years of age.

Children examined in the vision or hearing clinic receive a comprehensive eye or ear exam by highly qualified staff.  Eye or ear disorders that are diagnosed are treated as appropriate and referrals are made to other services as needed.  Services provided at the Vision and Hearing Specialty Clinics are provided at no cost to the clients.  Prevent Blindness of Ohio accepts applications for glasses and provides glasses to children who have no resources to obtain them.

The Vision Specialty Clinic is staffed by Optometrist Dr. Kathy Biddinger and Dr. Arnie Lagraff from Athens and Public Health Vision Consultants from ODH.  The Hearing Specialty Clinic is staffed by Ear, Nose and Throat Specialist Dr. James Magnussen form the Holzer Medical Center and Public Health Audiologists from ODH.
